Già un'altra giornata di cielo plumbeo e nuvole pesanti, questo periodo ha un po' di alti e bassi per me, quindi con quest'aria grigia oggi è tendenzialmente down; quindi per prima cosa mi scuso per l'inadempienza, non è per carineria ora, o mancanza di essa allora, ma non avevo realizzato che vincendo un Day Award avrei dovuto proseguire.. e può anche darsi che sbaglierò le regole, va bè tanto oggi è così, mi sento tutta sbagliata.

SPIRALE AI FERRI: TRADUZIONE DA NONA (KNITTED SPIRAL, TRANSLATION FROM NONA)

A grande richiesta traduco le istruzioni della sciarpa a Spirale di NONA ( che prossimamente vedrete su questi schermi...).

Premessa

- Non ho ancora fatto la sciarpa, quindi traduco e provo insieme su un campione, consigli di adattamento non ne ho ancora...
- Traduco anche i commenti di Nona, ma per questi consiglio a chi è interessato di leggere direttamente la versione originale...


La sciarpa è formata da una serie di incastri a forma di torta lavorati uno dopo l'altro in una spirale continua. Ogni pezzo è lavorato a ferri accorciati, le tre maglie più laterali sul lato esterno di ogni pezzo formano un bordo a maglie passate.

MISURE FINALI: circa 8 cm x 160 cm
MATERIALI: una lana di peso leggero/medio, nell'es. Cashoft di RYC (3 gomitoli da 50g per 320m) e ferri adeguati alla lana, nell'es. usati ferri 4mm.
CAMPIONE: 18x22 maglie in 10 cm, non è importante mantenere queste proporzioni.

ISTRUZIONI:
Montare 13 maglie.
Partendo dal lato del rovescio del lavoro (WS) lavorare il primo pezzo come segue:
R1: 10M a rovescio, passare 1M, 1M a rovescio, passare 1M;
R2: 1M a diritto, passare il filo sul davanti del lavoro, passare 1M e riportare il filo sul dietro del lavoro, 10M a diritto, voltare il lavoro senza finire le maglie;
R3 e tutte le righe sul rovescio del lavoro: 1M gettata da dietro -tenere il filo sul dietro tra i ferri, e farla passare avvolgendola sopra il ferro destro quando si lavora la maglia a rovescio, così la lana è portata sul davanti(il fatto di tenere la lana sul dietro del lavoro rende il primo punto gettato con un effetto un po' diverso, ma è corretto così)- lavorare a rovescio fino a quando restano 3M sul ferro sinistro, passare 1M, 1M a rovescio, passare 1M;
R4: 1M a diritto, passare il filo sul davanti del lavoro, passare 1M e riportare il filo sul dietro del lavoro, 9M a diritto, voltare;
R6: 1M a diritto, passare il filo sul davanti del lavoro, passare 1M e riportare il filo sul dietro del lavoro, 8M a diritto, voltare;
R8: 1M a diritto, passare il filo sul davanti del lavoro, passare 1M e riportare il filo sul dietro del lavoro, 7M a diritto, voltare;

RICICLARE LA LANA (RECYCLING WOOL)

Sono molto soddisfatta ho appena finito di recuperare una lana usata:
1. Disfatta una maglia che non voleva proprio avere una forma (vedi buoni propositi di qualche settimana fa).
2. Formate le matasse con l'avvolgitore (non so se si traduce così lo swifter!!!).
3. Lavate le matasse, e lasciate asciugare piano in casa.
4. Rifatti i gomitoli, belli gonfi e profumati.

Ora sto pensando il modello, che sicuramente sarà un poncho, perchè non ne ho e soprattutto perchè la lana è molto elastica (fatta da tanti sottili fili avvolti a tubo, il filato finale è spesso, da lavorare con ferri n° 8/9) e infatti la giacca che avevo fatto rimaneva molle... quindi ho pensato al poncho, sto mettendo insieme diversi schemi che ho trovato e poi vediamo.
Suggerimenti?

Comunque mi piace davvero l'idea di poter dare forme diverse ad un filo, nel senso che prima fai una giacca, la metti più o meno, ti affezioni, e poi puoi trasformare quello che hai fatto in un'altra cosa, con un'altra storia... Bello, soddisfa il mio animo ecologista, e anche quello feticista...

I'm really satisfied, I've just finished recovering an old yarn:
1. Undone a jacket that wouldn't work fit (see the Good Intentions of a few weeks ago).
2. Made hanks with the swifter.
3. Soaked the hanks, and let them dry slowly indoor.
4. Rewound arn in balls, beautiful, fluffy and fragrant.

Now I'm thinking of a pattern, that will surely be a poncho, because I don't have any, and above all because the yarn is very elastic (it's made of many thin threads
wrapped into a thicker one in a tube, that has to be knitted with 8/9mm needles) and in fact the jacket I had knitted was too chewy... so I thought of a poncho, I'm mixing different patterns I found and we'll see.
Any Suggestions?

Anyhow, I actually love the idea to give different shapes to a thread, I mean: you knit a jacket, wear it more or less and get fond of it, and then you can transform what you made into a completely different thing, with another story... great this satisfies my ecologist soul, and the fetish one...

SPIRALI PARTE II (SPIRALS PART II)

Sto procedendo con l'ultimo giro della sciarpa a spirale, quello ad archetti, è vero che è lunghetta da fare, perchè ad ogni giro si raddoppiano i punti, quindi il primo è veloce, e poi via via ci si mette di più.
Il risultato mi piace, l'unica cosa è che io partendo da 200 catenelle con uncinetto da 3,5mm ho una sciarpa lunga 110 cm, che è pochino secondo me, ora studio qualcosa...

I'm proceeding with the last row of my crocheted spiral scarf, and it's it's taking quite a lot of time because in every row stitches double, so the first one is quick but the following get longer...
I like the result anyway, the only thing is that I cast on a chain of 200 stitches with a 3,5mm crochet hook and the scarf is 110cm long, which means quite short to me, now I'll think of something to do...

Qualche giorno fa venuta a cena una coppia di amici speciali, chiaccherando mi sono trovata a mettere su un cd di Tori Amos, vecchio, uno dei miei preferiti, e non so proprio perchè; comunque in questa settimana mi sono ritrovata a canticchiare una canzone in particolare in diverse occasioni... la condivido con voi solo nel testo, per chi non conosce la musica la provi ad immaginare, è un pianoforte suonato con trasporto, che riesco a ricondurre solo a lei. Quelli che invece conoscono Tori, godano nel ricodare. Questa canzone mi rappresenta molto ultimamente, in passato la consideravo triste, angosciante, ma ora la leggo solo con dolcezza.

A few days ago a couple of special friens came for dinner, while chatting I found myself putting on a CD by Tori Amos, quite old yet one of my favourites, really with no reason; anyway, in this week I heard myself humming a single song in different occasions... I'll share with you only the lyrics: to who doesn't know it just try to imagine the music, it's a piano played with energy, that I can bring back only to her.
People who knows Tori, just enjoy remembering.
This song represents me a lot recently, in the past I considered it sad and distressing, but now I read it only with sweetness.

APPROPOSITO DI SPIRALI CAPITOLO 2 (ABOUT SPIRALS CHAPTER 2)

Eccola eccola!!
Ho iniziato la sciarpa a spirale di Berny, e l'ho chiamata Spirale Luna, perchè la lana con cui la sto facendo è un colore particolare: il filo di base è nero, ma ha fili aggiunti più sottili cangianti tra il grigio ghiaccio e l'azzurro un po' brillanti, che mi ricordano la luce della luna... bella sta venendo a spirale davvero!
Come scrivevo nei commenti voglio poi fare anche la versione ai ferri di Nona per vedere le differenze e perchè mi diverto un sacco... terza evoluzione poi può essere lavorarle con lana grossa, chissà come vengono...

PS: chissà se la persona a cui è destinata l'ha riconosciuta per sè...

Here it is, here it is!!
I started Berny's spiral scarf, and I called it Spiral Moon, because the wool I'm working with has such a particular colour: the base thread is black, but has other lighter threads changing from ice grey to light blue that remind me of a moonlight... beautiful, it's really becoming a spirla as I work!!
As I was writing in comments downward as soon as I finish this, I wish to knit Nona's version, to see differences but above all cause it's so amusing to me... the third evolution may be to work both with a thicker yard, how they'd work out...

PS: wonder if the person I'm crocheting this for has recognized it for herself...

APPROPOSITO DI SPIRALI (ABOUT SPIRALS)

Pensavo di fare a breve una sciarpa a spirale, seguendo le istruzioni di Berny, ho due amiche che sembrano tagliate apposta per cose così... Comunque, dato che questo modello di sciarpa mi ispira un sacco ho pensato di cercare un po' su internet se ci fossero varianti sul tema. Basta digitare "Ruffle" o "Ruffled" scarf e escono mille varianti.
Tra tutte ho trovato questa, sul blog di Nona.
Quindi credo che le farò entrambe, vediamo poi le differenze... Berny che ne pensi? In realtà ne ho trovata un'altra ancora che mi ispira, la Potato Chips Ruffled Scarf di Lion Brand, fatta all'uncinetto... ehm veramente c'è anche la Potato Chip di Knit Picks che non è proprio a spirale ma è carinissima... dai ne troviamo altre e le proviamo tutte?

I was thinking about knitting a spiral scarf in these days, following Berny instructions, you know I have two friends that seem born to wear things like this... Anyway, I reaaly love this kind of tecnique, so I searched a bit on the internet to find similar patterns; it's enough to typer ruffle or ruffled scarf and thousands variations appear! Among all I found this on Nona Knits blog.
So I guess I'll knit both, we'll see differences... Berny what do you think?
Actually I found another one that awes me: crocheted Lion Brand Potato Chips Ruffled Scarf ... ehm there's also another one, Knit Picks Potato Chip , that hasn't really a spiral shape, but it's cute... why don't we try and find some more to knit?

PRIMA CALZA ANDATA (FIRST SOCK DONE)

Ecco la prima è andata; pensavo peggio, in effetti le spiegazioni di Alice Twain sono chiarissime; l'unica cosa è che mi è rimasta la parte del collo del piede decisamente larga, va be' poco male, oggi mi sento indulgente. Forse le Calziniste inorridiscono, ma lavorare tanto a maglia rasata mi è sembrato un po' noioso... forse anche perchè avevo una lana monocolore... ora ho iniziato la seconda, e sarò paziente... non darò giudizi sulle calze finchè avrò provato uno punto un po' più lavorato, he he!

Here it is, the first one is done; Thought worse, actually AliceTwain explanations were very clear; the only thing is that the instep part is quite large, nevermind today I'm easy. Maybe the Calziniste are going to get horrified, but I found a bit boring to knit long pieces in stocking stitch... perhaps also because I had a single colour yarn... now I started the second one and I'll be patient... I won't give any judgement until I try a more elaborate pattern, he he!

I see a comment in my blog, and as usual I go and look at who wrote (Aless.erre)... and I find this quiz... I rediscovered Jane Austen recently, that I had read years ago; so, because I think coincidences often don't exist, here it is my result!

DILL RIVISITATO E FINALMENTE FINITO (REVISITED AND FINALLY FINISHED DILL)

Dopo quasi un mese di tira e molla ho finito lo Scaldaspalle Dill di Rowan-New Shapes; è stata un soddisfazione domare lo schema, e poi, come pensavo secondo i miei calcoli infallibili, è avanzata un bel po' di lana e allora ho modificato lo schema con un'aggiunta. In pratica ho ripreso le maglie del dietro e dei 2 davanti e ho lavorato in tondo (con lo stesso punto del resto, ovvero 12 ferri a maglia rasata e 1 a rovescio) finchè c'era lana, un "tubo" lungo i fianchi che ha trasformato lo scaldaspalle in una maglia vera e propria e anche abbastanza lunga.
All'inizio ero un po' perplessa del risultato, perchè davanti la scollatura è molto profonda, infatti ho alzato un po' il punto di incrocio dei 2 davanti e del tubo con una spilla di feltro; il dietro invece fa un effetto strano, perchè la parte superiore rimane più larga di quella inferiore e quindi "sblusa" (termine tecnico). Però diverse persone, disinteressate, mi hanno detto che è molto carino e pensavano fosse fatto apposta... quindi me ne sto.

After nearly a month of back and forth I finished the shoulder cover Dill from Rowan New Shapes; it was really a satisfaction to tame this pattern, and then, as I expected from my unfailing counts, some yarn was exceeding so I added a piece. I retrieved the stitches from the back and the two fronts, and knitted in round (with the same pattern of the previous part, i.e. 12rows in stocking stitch an 1r purled) until I had yarn, it was a "tube" down the hips, that made it a proper garment.
First I was a bit baffled because in the front the neckline was really plunging, so I lifted it with a felted pin; the back instead has a strange effect, as the upper part is larger than the lower one and it turns down. Despite of this, many people, uninterested of course, told me it's nice and thought it was knitted this way on purpose.... so I take it as it is.

FILARE O NON FILARE (TO SPIN OR NOT TO SPIN)

Questo è il problema - Come ho già scritto giorni fa.
Ho seguito i consigli di Apest e Gomitolina, e cercato un po' in giro su "roving" o "spinning" etc e sono usciti ovviamente un sacco di spunti interessanti.
Vorrei elencarne qualcuno giusto per condividerli e eventualmente sapere se ne consigliate altri... Sarebbe carino iniziare a commentare insieme i vari passaggi mentre si intraprendono no?

Innanzitutto a quanto ho capito per ROVING si intendono le fibre preparate e un po' ritorte per la filatura (SPINNING).
Ci sono diversi tipi di fusi (SPINDLE) a mano o filatoi (SPINNING WHEEL).
La tintura della lana (DYEING) è più avvicinabile, con colori acrilici o naturali.
Si trova tutto acquistabile online, ma non in Italia a quanto ne so.
Quindi volendo io provare questa nuova avventura appena le finanze me lo consentiranno [in realtà i fusi del tipo Drop Spindle non costano tantissimo, dai 20 ai 70 $, e le matassone da 7 a 15/20 $ per circa 2/400 g, ma prima vorrei comprare qualche combinazione di ferri di Knit Picks che sono arrivati su UnFilodi.com...], vi elenco blog e siti che mi sono piaciuti un sacco:

- ONE PLANET YARN AND FIBER sito di lane dal mondo, offre kit per imparare a filare, fusi e fibre a ottimi prezzi.
- KNITTING-AND sito che spiega bene con esempi pratici come tingere, filare lana etc.
- JOY OF HANDSPINNING, lo dice il nome stesso, sono bravissimi organizzati anche con filmati per mostrare le varie tecniche.
- MAKE 1 YARN STUDIO, sito semplice, senza istruzioni, ma con discreta scelta di attrezzature e libri.
- HELLO YARN, uno dei miei preferiti, tutto fai da te, e che cose!

That is the question, as I said some days ago...
I followed Apest and Gomitolina suggestions and searched around for "roving" or "spinning" etc, and as I expected many intriguing tips came up.
I'd like to list some of these, just to share them and perhaps know whether you provide others... Wouldn't it be nice to start discussing together all the steps as one of us gets into them?
First of all, what I learnt are the meaning og roving, dyeing, spinning with a drop spindle or with a spinning wheel. Everthing is for sale in the web, though not in Italy for what I know.
Given that I wish to tart this new adventure as soon as my finances will allow [actually drop spindles don't cost that much, from 20 to 70$ I saw, and fiber batts from 9 to 20$ for 200/400 g, but first I want to buy some Knit Picks options that arrived at UnFilodi.com...], I list blogs and websites I like best:

- ONE PLANET YARN AND FIBER site of yarns from all over the world, offers quite cheap kits to learn to spin, spindles and fibers.
- KNITTING-AND site that shows cearly how to dye, spin etc with practical examples.
- HELLO YARN, one of my favourites, everything is self made, and what a stuff!
- JOY OF HANDSPINNING, the name says everything, they're skillful, organized also with video tutorials for each tecnique.
- MAKE 1 YARN STUDIO, simple site, without instructions, ith a good choice of equipment and books.

Se la prima matassa era arrivata per errore, questa l'ho ordinata veramente, su commissione della mamma. Sfogliando il Book di C.T.H infatti ha adorato il top Gesta e allora non aspettavo altro che poter lavorare una lana Noro, no? Pronti via!

L'ho ordinata da Angel Yarns, perchè aveva il bagno di colore indicato nello schema, e tra l'altro era pure scontato!
Se dovessi dare un feedback sarebbe del 100%, ottimi, chiari nella transazione e veloci, ti aggiornano pure sulla spedizione del pacco.
Eccola qui sui ferri, i commenti sulla lana li ho fatti per il berretto Trana, non vi tedio, però anche questi colori non smentiscono la fama di Noro. Anche le istruzioni tra l'altro sono spiegate molto bene, conoscendo l'inglese obviously...

If the first skein arrived by mistake, I ordered this on purpose, on my mummy's demand.
Looking through C.T.H book in fact she loved Gesta top: I was looking forward to knit a NORO yarn, wasn't I? Ready it is!
I ordered it from Angel Yarns, because it had the colour suggested in the pattern, and after all it was on sale!
If I had to give a feedback it would be 100%, very good, clear in the transaction and quick, they even update information on the delivery.
There it is on the needles, comments on the yarn are in Trana hat post, I won't bother, I can say also thiese colours don't discard NORO touch. Even the instructions are well explained, in english of course...

Allora finalmente ho trovato cosa fare con la matassa di Kochoran che mi è arrivata: la soluzione ovviamente era sotto il naso e io cercavo a destra e a manca... il Book di Cornelia T.H. per Noro che ho comprato un mese fa!
Lì c'era questo berretto simpaticissimo e non avevo mai lavorato quel punto a ferri, quindi meglio di così...

Se devo fare un commento a questa lana, è davvero meravigliosa, morbida, scorre sul lavoro benissimo e i colori sono sfumati in un modo così bilanciato che sembra naturale.
Attenzione, è decisamente pelosa, per la percentuale di angora che contiene (50% lana merinos, 30% angora, 20% seta), per cui non a tutti forse questo può piacere (a me sì); la seta invece rende il colore luminoso e acceso. Ho seguito le istruzioni che consideravano una taglia unica, e alla fine il berretto mi sta, ma risulta più stretto rispetto alla foto del modello originale... poco male!

Finally I found out what to knit with the Kochoran that arrived: the aswer was obviously in front of me when I searched everywhere: Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton Book n°2 for NORO I bought a month ago!
There there is this ducky hat and I had never knitted that kind of pattern, so, what better than this?

If I had to give a comment for this yarn, well it's really gorgeous, soft, it runs along the needle and the colours are shaded with such a balance that they seem simply natural.
Pay attention: it's quite shaggy, for the percentage of angora it has (50% merino wool, 30% angora, 20% silk), so that not anybody may like it (I do!); the silk instead makes the colour bright and brilliant. I followed the instructions that referred to a single size, and the hat in the end suites me, but its smaller than the picture of the original one... doesn't matter!

Come anticipato tante volte, ho iniziato le mie prime calze, e come suggeritomi da Berny ho scelto le Pervinche di AliceTwain.
Per ora sembra tutto facile, sto facendo la gamba... poi vi saprò dire...

Ho scelto una rosso scuro che avevo in casa, qualunque sarà il risultato i calzini mi serviranno per fare yoga, visto che ogni lezione mi si congelano i piedini!

As predicted many times, I started to knit my first socks, and as suggested by Berny I chose AliceTwain Pervinche.
Up to now it seems quite easy, I'm knitting the leg part... afterwards I'll let you know...

I chose a dark red sport yarn I had at home, whatever the result these socks are going to be useful for my yoga, as my feet get freeezed during every lesson!
