VESTICELL

------------
Yes, I know, I delayed the beginning of my first socks, but I'll launch into that soon - the funny is to talk to oneself, and promise many things, even apologise a lot... actually the problem is that my days are 24H each and I can't really do everything I'd like to, so I let my mind flow and I'll run after with my needles, crochets and knitting case -

SHORT OBSERVATION:
It's so funny this idea of the blog, it's really taking out aspects of myself that maybe my job made asleep a bit; instead of it, I'm rediscovering creativity, curiosity, will to learn... every day I find ideas and tips that I put in the drawer and perhaps one day I'll realise, but above all I take all the energy that comes with this....
END OF THE OBSERVATION

GILET POLVERE (POWDER WAISTCOAT)

Altro vecchio lavoro caricato!

-------------
Another old work posted!
I made this waistcoat some time ago, and I haven't posted yet because I was waiting for the PDF patern to be ready and downloadable... How difficult is to write instruction tha result easy to understand for other people!
In this case, furthermore, I hadn't taken any note of the pattern (that was invented);actually when I don't follow ready patterns, I usually knit a bit with plans or at random, then I undo everything and knit again (empirical, I know!), that's why it's difficult sometimes to reconstruct works made...
Anyway this time I'm satisfied, the pattern got fine, I hope, at least until anyone asks what I meant...

Service message: finally I arranged Reddish Beret pattern instructions well enough, to which soon others may follow, I hope, the link to download them is on the side menu...

E' ARRIVATA LA LANA!!! (THE YARN'S ARRIVED!!)

-------------

Last week I was browsing the web without a real destination, and ordered a skein of NORO Kochoran by mistake at a very convenient price... I already knew the EBay shop (JANNETTE RARE YARNS) so I was aware it was not a dud.
In fact today the yarn has arrived, it's amazing, you should touch it if you' ve never done, and the colour is really prismatic as they say; now, this on one side messes my good plans to finish old stuff, because obviously I'm willing to kniti it straight away, don't know if it happens to you too.
On the other side, I'd like to knit something dazzling, but it' only one 100g skein (the offer was such for this reason...)... thought of a hat, or maybe it's enough for a hood: any suggestion?

BUONI PROPOSITI (GOOD INTENTIONS)

-----------------

Don't know if it happens to you too, but as soon as I finish a work I'm full of good purposes to start knitting some others, and, especially if it suites fine, maybe making some pindaric flights on new tecniques or garments never tried or even more...
For example, few thoughts came to my mind:

1. THE MOST DILIGENT: to finish and fix all the interrupted garments, left in my yarn basket (that's becoming a knotty agglomerate of threads and needles...); in this purpose there are: my husband's pull, with a wrong neck, to undo and knit again - flowery wrap cardigan, the sleeves need to be fixed they're too large by the armholes - ribbed jacket, I completely mistook the raglan, I wish to undo it all and knit a Bobblicious (see wishlist).

2. THE MOST CONCRETE: to finish at least one of the strong pieces posted above, and try some socks, after a cover for my mobile, since I've just bought a new one and I don't want to ruin it shortly.

3. THE MOST PICARESQUE: after all I wrote above, to study a couple of new patterns, that I already have in my mind, and see what comes out... I won't anticipate anything about this!

4. THE MOST VISIONARY: it's most of all a dream, in which I start spinning and dyeing my own yarn, I learn to weave, have my own lab in which I can dismanage, and that one day might become a substitute for my office, as the place where I spend most part of my days.

What an escalation! ...not bad isn't it? Anyhow it doesn't cost much to dream, and above all it's a granted anti stress. Just think about the nth bothering from your boss, collegue, supplier etc. and as they invest you with atrain of words, you only think out how to solve a brainteaser pattern, or just watch yourself from above while knitting... what to say more?

Time will tell which note I may cross out from my good purposes...

BASCO ROSSO (REDDISH BERET)

---------------

So, wishing to make it serious with this blog, I decided to post every work I knitted also in the past; One of the first was this classic crochet beret, for which I'm writing the pattern, I'll publish it as soon as it's ready, although I guess for most people it may be trite.
For now just come face to face with me for the first time online... I don't know it sounded strange to me to post photos cropping my head; not that I'm particulary vain or photogenic, on the contrary! But to post a beret, either I show up, or I buy a dummy and I don't think it's the right time or place, shoo my shyness!

VERONICHE FINITE (VERONICHE DONE)

Medito

---------------------

I finished the booties, I'm satisfied, I learn a new technique!
I posted the photos of the various steps on my Photobucket, you can go there just clicking on the title in the sidebar, so I won't fill the blog ith images.

Well, now let's think of something new!!!!
To stay on-topic I thought of a cute pattern I found in Hello Yarn blog, even these are baby booties, so I knit faster in small sizes...
Otherwise I'll launch into socks...

LE MIE PRIME BABBUCCE (MY FIRST BOOTIES)

-----------------

As careful visitors might know, I've never knitted socks, booties and things like those; so I made up my mind, I had to remedy. To start I chose Veroniche di Alicetwain, to start on tiptoe witha clear explanation. And in fact I messed up only a little and they're proceeding quickly... fortunately, because the baby that's going to wear them is about to arrive!

I must say that knitters fond of socks are right, it's funny and quick... now I'll start with a real sock, knitted in round, and we'll see if I'll be such enthusiastic.

SCALDASPALLE... il ritorno (SHOULDER WRAP... THE RETURN)

-------------

As I was saying, I dismantled and knitted again Rowan Dill, this time I didn't try to adapt the instruction to my yarnand my needles, so I followed my idea and considered the pattern only on a quality level.
So I started with the first sleeve (because the pattern starts there, proceeding to the shoulder without seams... this should be my seamless period, as turning and turning again my last works were such, like the Kimono), and increased gradually and for the shoulders I cast on new stitches and knitted in short rows.
Luckily, with 6mm needles I knit fast, and now I'm nearly by half of the work again, measures seem to be fine this time; maybe in this way I'll have some spare yarn and I might add a piece I thought of while knitting... SURPRISE!
I won't foretell anything, in the end we'll see if it makes sense.
I posted some photos of the work in progress on Photobucket and Flickr, they're so handy!

APPROPOSITO DI PENELOPE (ABOUT PENELOPE)

Va bè non bisogna demordere no?

------------
Do you remember a certain Penelope, who weaved her fabric during the day and undoes it at night, waiting for her Ulysses?
Less romantic, but also my husband calls me such, because, even though my works in the end get finished, sometimes I undo them and reknit many times... so it's not really a compliment, but actually he's right!
For example, I'm knitting Dill, a shouldercover, from my cool Rowan book, but I definitely mistake the proportions: the pattern is explained for needles size 9mm, but I had a lighter yarn and use 6mm needles, so I'm getting messed irreparably, I got to nearly the half, as pointed out in the picture in the sidebar, trusting my counts.... and instead I had to dismantle and start again, it was too big and the yarn wouldn't have ben enough to finish the work!
Anyway, never surrender, right?

QUANDO E' NUVOLOSO (WHEN IT'S CLOUDY)

------------

What a day today in Genoa! There were such blackish clouds that there was almost no light in the sky, and as I was going to work I could see the roofs in the old town nearly stuck together that they seemed overlapped, the chimneys, the steeples that go up as always to the hills of Sarzano and Carignano... well I saw them nearly lighter than usual, because behind them the sky was so dark, hanging.
May it be because it's my hometown, but in days like this it seems to me painted, in fact in very truth it seems so beautiful to me even when it's sunny, foggy or cloudy and muggy at the same time....

UNA GIACCA IN CUI AVVOLGERSI (A JACKET TO GET WRAPPED IN)

---------------

This jacket is a few years old now, it was one of my first pieces (in fact it's quite simple to knit) taken as usual from Burda MAglia, I know I was soggy before discovering all the web resources...
Anyway, I knitted witha wisteria Kid thread and a marron glacè mixed woollen and chenille thread, very soft and shiny (can't tell the brandm the lady in my favourite shop often used to give me directly the spools, unfortunately before closing sigh!!).
The jacket is knitted in stoking stitch, and the huge neck with 2rib, taking back the stitches from the back and both the front pieces, the belt is crocheted and fixed at the hips...
What to say more?

QUESTO SPAZIO... (ABOUT THIS SPACE...)

-------------

Sunday evening, time to reflect before beginning a new week.
I thought this blog is taking the shape I wanted, and brings a lot of news to me. Yes, because until a short time ago knitting was the chance to create something for me only, to express parts of myself, and in fact I knitted nearly only for myself...
For many people I imagine this sounds weird, what to do?
Anyway, during last months I started to consider that this ability of mine is valuable, and could make other people happy... this happened when I discovered how many knitting sites, blogs and forums there are in the web, funny, as I've always been surfing these years, but I had never linked internet to knitting, that has always been a world for myself.
Since then, it's been a continuous searching, snooping around, discovering and imagining all the possibilities that lie inside colours and yarns.
This is also the reason why I'm building this space, and I' taking care of it at my best (I still know sol little of this stuff), because this is a sort of window through which I peep out to the world... as really knitting has been a doghouse for my own.
On the contrary, I started to think about works made on purpose for friends&C, shaped on the people I love, and this is so beautiful!

BOOKS FINALMENTE ARRIVATI!! (FINALLY MY BOOKS ARRIVED!!)

--------------

Because of transports strike or forthcoming holidays I don't know, but the parcel I had ordered on Ebay in December has taken long to arrived; I chose Ebay after a long analisys of many websites and it seemed the cheapest option, but in fact it was a shop inside it... ooops I'didn't say what I ordered!
Rowan NEWSHAPES and BOOK n°2 of Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton for NORO!
WONDERFUL!!!
Great pictures, not only simple patterns, but always with good explanations (if you can read english of course). So I guess these will be the first of a series, don't know why, but I feel a sort of nearess to the lines of the patterns and of course to the yarns. The only little problem is the cost, because I didn't manage to find this stuff in euro zone nor in Italy (least of all).
So I didn't dare now, and chose a pattern from Rowan to knit with some yarn I already had at home; actually I slightly changed DILL, it's still on the needles, and I'll tell about ow it proceeds.
Surely my next special gift for myself (I do it sometimes, for who doesn't know..) is going to be a few skeins of Silk Garden, or Iro.... and I guess it'll happen soon...

CAMPANA VINACCIA (BELL-BOTTOM WINE DARK)

---------------

This is my favourite garment, one of the best results, and in fact I keep it as a relic in the wardrobe and wear it in special occasions.
I knitted joining a wine dark sport yarn with 2 threads of a lighter shade mohair, the effect is great.
The shape is quite simple, with a large straight neck and bell-bottom sleeves; the pattern maybe is a bit more complex, with lace stitches worked every 16 rows... Anyway I drew it here after.
The idea? Took again from Burda Maglia... what to do? Before I had discovered the almost endless knitting resources on the web, this was one of my favourite references.

KIMONO

---------
KIMONO

I've just finishe a kimono jacket, it's gorgeous and really comfortable. I knitted it with a circular 5mm needle, the yarn was a gift, I'm sure it's a good mohair... so soft, thin but warm as well. I took the pattern from a Burda Maglia of a few years ago.
I had never worked with circular needles an entire garment, and in fact it's been quite difficult to find a 120cm cable, but it was necessary to bear the length of both the sleeves and the rear; in the end I found it at Kristine - Il Cesto della lana: she's cheap, punctual in delivery and really kind, besides she's in stock many nordic yarns that are worth thinking.
So to come back to my work, according to me this tecnique is definitely faster and has the advantage of avoiding many seams, that I personally never stood a lot: they usually give me a few problems when garments are worn.
Anyway I really love the final result, it's very comfortable and versatile, you can close it with a big belt or a pin, as I chose... after along trip around felt stands in a Christmas fair!

EPIFANIA: LA FESTA DELLE CALZE, NO? (EPIPHANY: SOCKS DAY ISN'T IT?)

--------------

At the end of this day also christmas holidays say goodbye up to next year, obviously it's a pity as even in these vacations I didn't manage to do all the socks and booties and things like those I wanted... never tried you know!? It's weird because a pair of yellow booties brought me along my first months in mum's belly, and dressed my dolls feet, then they were forgotten somewhere and now I can't find them anymore.

So it's strange that in the last years I've been knitting, learning and testing new works so much, but I've never been attracted by this sort of stuff.... well there's always time, so now I have one more wish for this year, or rather if anybody has a pattrn to suggest....

REGALINO DI NATALE (CHRISTMAS LITTLE GIFT)

------------------

As my lord and master, not so often, complains that I never do anything for him (only about knitting, I specify!), I added this beret to his Christmas gift.
I knitted in 1/1 ribs with Royal Tweed di Lana Grossa.
The detail? the woollen button, and the treble crochet edge, It seems to me better finished this way.
How does it suite? Just take a look...

ULTIMO NATO (THE LAST BORN)

Ho lavorato in tondo sui 4 ferri, et voilà!

------------

Here it is, Matteo, I named the container for the content: this baby was born last Dec. 11, a month earlier than expected and so this is my forst gift for his tiny head.
I worked it with double pointed needles (3mm), white yarn for babies, without any acrylic or hairs; it was funny as it's been a long time since I had knitted such tiny stuff, and above all the last pom-pom I had made was in childhood, whem my granny Ida taught me more just for fun.
Anyway, I set measures starting from a 3-months pattern, and reduced a little (I read to decrease or increase 2cm for each size larger or smaller).
Then I worked evenly on the double pointed needles, and there it is!

C'ERA UNA VOLTA... (ONCE UPON A TIME...)

...THAT'S HOW A TALE WORTH THIS NAME BEGINS...

Don't know for you, but to me knitting has always been like hiding in a peaceful moment, concentration and warmth.. if I had to define my handworks, I'd say they're above all the results of an unconscious meditation.

So, now, it's really difficult to try and share, and therefore arrange, all the ideas and the more or less successful attempts of these years!
Yes, why I decided to do this I really don't know, but as it often happens in life, I guess I'll find out some times later that there was a reason; anyway, my idea is to tell the thoughts that come to my mind when I knit, because I think they're different from ordinary ones, and understand whether this happens to me only (and then I'd better ask myself many questions...), or there's anyone like me around here in the web.
